Advent

There are many issues vying for our attention in 2020. As the year wraps up, it would be terribly easy to simply survive until this difficult year has ended. Instead, let’s use the conclusion of this year to reorient our hearts and minds to our only hope—the first and second advents of the Incarnate Son of God.

Sunday Mornings

Join us for Sunday morning worship at 8:45 or 11:15 AM! LifeGroups meet from 10:00 to 11:00. We invite you to visit our new Sunday Mornings page each week for resources including sermon notes, announcements, the link to give online, a place for prayer requests, and more!

Welcome, Guests!

Whether it’s your first time at First Baptist Powell, you’ve been several times before, or you’re still thinking about visiting, we’re glad you’re here! We consider it an honor and a privilege to welcome guests of all ages and backgrounds to our church. We hope if you’ve already visited that you felt right at home. Please visit fbcpowell.org/guests to let us know how we can better serve you.

Lottie Moon

We invite you to stop by the Women on Mission Lottie Moon display at The Point on Sunday. Though our church has only one IMB missionary family, we have several other international missionaries from our church. Please take a picture ornament from the Lottie Moon tree to take home as a reminder to pray and give.

Wednesday Nights

Join us on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:00 PM for prayer meetings, choir practice, student ministry, and children’s ministry.

Prayer Requests

We consider it a privilege to pray for you and your family. Please let us know how we can be interceding for you and how we can join you in rejoicing over answered prayers.

Podcast

Check out First Baptist Powell’s new podcast, Completely Churched. New episodes are posted twice a month.

Cyber Barrel Drive

Mission of Hope is hosting a 2020 Cyber Barrel Christmas Drive starting Nov. 1. Due to COVID-19, the traditional blue barrels will not be set out. Instead, Mission of Hope is asking that you buy new toys and clothes for kids across Appalachia on their website.

We are a gospel-centered community who loves God and others by:
Worshipping Him • Proclaiming His Word • Sharing His Gospel • Equipping His People

Advent Season

Advent Season

As some of you are aware, this Lord’s Day marks the beginning of a season historically known as Advent. For many Christians throughout church history, Advent has served as a season of preparation and anticipation. After all, Advent season leads to Christmas and the...

The Sacrifice of Thanksgiving

The Sacrifice of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. The reason I like it better than Christmas is there aren’t as many expectations (materialism, gifts), and it doesn’t carry the same relative tension (Santa vs virgin birth). Thanksgiving is simply a season of being thankful, and...

Ancient of Days

Ancient of Days

This past Sunday, we sang a new song during Sunday worship entitled “Ancient of Days” by City Alight. While the song was new to me, the phrase “Ancient of Days” is not. The Ancient of Days is a title for our great and mighty God. It is my favorite title for God, and...

Let Peace Rule in Your Hearts

I have seen much that has troubled me in these many months. Not only me, but many of my friends, our community, even the whole world. The entire world has been racked by the coronavirus. Our country has been torn apart as we’ve counted deaths from Covid-19 and racial...

Bless the Children

In recent weeks my heart has been broken as I have witnessed the continued moral decay of our culture. Beyond the horrible rancor that has become commonplace in American politics we are witnessing a rapid decline in the very moral fabric of our society. In less than a...

Life in a Washing Machine

During a Black Friday sale last year, Cindy and I bought a new washing machine. We decide to replace our front loader with a top loader. One surprising feature of our new washing machine is that it has a clear glass lid. Therefore, you can see what’s happening to the...
