first baptist powell is an
elder-led church

While there are many forms of church governments, we believe that an elder-led model is the most biblically faithful. It allows elders to fulfill their duties as Scripture describes, and preserves the roles and responsibilities of every member within the context of the priesthood of all believers.



Perry accepted the position as the Senior Pastor at First Baptist Powell in 2020 after a unanimous vote from our congregation. He is married to Tanna, and they have three children: Madeline, Titus, and Micah.

Tim mcghee


Tim joined First Baptist Powell in 2006. He is married to Carla and they have two daughters: Hannah and Micah.

rick bertou


Rick moved from Pennsylvania to Tennessee in 2008. After 34 years in business, Rick became part of our full-time pastoral staff responsible for leading our Finances and Administration. Rick and his wife Cindy have been married for more than 30 years, and they have five adult children.



Brett joined First Baptist Powell as Worship Pastor in 2019. He is married to DeAnna and they have three sons: Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Micah. He and DeAnna also served as missionaries with the IMB in Southeast Asia from 2007-2010.

steven mcghee


Steven and his wife Amber joined First Baptist Powell in 2007. Steven leads an Adult Lifegroup and is involved with various family ministries as well as activities with First Baptist Academy. Steven and Amber have been married for 18 years and have two children: Zachary and Luke.

Darin mercer


Darin joined First Baptist Powell in 2003 and joined the staff in February 2013. Darin graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He is married to Katie and they have four children: Cooper, Avery, Ashlyn, and Alia.

clayton gilley


Clayton became a Christian in 1957. He married his wife, Pat, in 1967. Clayton was ordained a deacon in 1977. He and Pat served as missionaries in the Philippines from 2002 to 2004. Clayton and Pat became members at First Baptist Powell in 2005 and are active in our Life Group and the Worship Ministry in the orchestra and choir. Clayton and Pat have two sons and five grandchildren. 

Danny amanns


Danny is a lifelong resident of the Powell community. He was saved and baptized while attending First Baptist Powell in 1972. He is involved in the mission, prayer, and college ministries at FBP. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Danny and his wife, Sallie, have been married for 30 years. They have three daughters and two granddaughters. 

Alan grissom


Alan came to First Baptist Powell in 2005 as a college student interested in serving in short-term missions. Since then, he has served in a variety of ministries, such as a Life Group leader to middle and high school boys, singing in the worship ministry, and as a deacon. He and his wife, Alys, have been married 10 years and have two daughters, Genevieve and Rosemary.  

andrew chitwood


Andrew Chitwood is married to Dominique, and he serves as the Middle School Principal at First Baptist Academy.

jim mclean


Jim McLean was saved and baptized as a pre-teen. Jim and his wife of nearly fifty years, Lin, have hosted a Bible study at their home for about four years. One of Jim’s favorite books of the Bible is Hebrews, and he describes being an Elder as very humbling. Jim and Lin have two adult sons.
