Sunday Set List: 1/28/18

Worship // January 27, 2018 //

Do you love to sing throughout the week the songs we sing at church on Sundays? Now it’s easier than ever! This is the first of what will become a weekly blog post highlighting which songs we’ll be singing in our Sunday worship services. Hope you enjoy!

I Love to Tell the Story

Words: Catherine Hankey
Music: William Fischer

In a service in which we are launching our new branding (including this new website!) as well as an outreach strategy called #OP2BLESS, we’re all about telling stories. But no story is as good as that “old, old story of Jesus and His love!” At our church, we sing Don Chapman’s excellent arrangement from

This I Believe (The Creed)

Words & Music: Ben Fielding & Matt Crocker

What better way to follow up a song about sharing the Gospel story than with a song which fleshes out the details of that story? This selection by Hillsong is one of many great worship songs based on the Apostles’ Creed.

The Lord Is My Salvation

Words & Music: Keith Getty, Kristyn Getty, Nathan Nockels, and Jonas Myrin

Our choir & orchestra introduced this wonderful hymn a few weeks ago, and I believe it’s destined to become a First Baptist Powell favorite! It’s the seventh hymn we’ve sung from the Getty’s most recent album,¬†Facing a Task Unfinished. It’s rare that a single album contains so many great options for corporate worship, but this one’s definitely a winner! The songs we haven’t sung here in Powell (including yet another based on the Creed) are just as worthy.

In Christ Alone

Words & Music: Keith Getty & Stuart Townend

From their newest album to their greatest hit, “In Christ Alone” roots the faith that we’ve sung and the salvation we’ve celebrated in the Savior we worship. There are many good arrangements of this hymn; this 10th Anniversary Edition is the one we chose this time.

O Praise the Name (Anastasis)

Words & Music: Dean Ussher, Marty Sampson, Benjamin Hastings

We close our worship set with another new hymn exalting the holy name of Jesus. This song reminds us that the salvation He won on our behalf is secure for all eternity. And for that reason, we’ll sing His praise forever!

For endless days we will sing Your praise
O Lord, O Lord our God!
